My tiny, chicken-like brain cannot comprehend all the mentions Beaky has been getting lately!
(P.S., The title of this article was inspired by some click bait I saw recently.)
Hello friends, hope you’re having a great and healthy start to the year. What are your goals for 2023? Leave them in the comments.
This year, I hope to connect more with people, try out for another musical, continue studying opera singing, and oh yeah, make some new books! Including the 4th in the INTERRUPTING CHICKEN series.
Even the ceiling of The Met makes me happy.
Me and some dear family.
Speaking of opera, my birthday was in late January and I got to celebrate in my favorite way, at The Metropolitan Opera. I had a wonderful time seeing Donizetti’s L’Elisir D’Amore with family. (After some great Korean BBQ at Wonjo.) If you’re unfamiliar with the opera, it includes the show-stopping aria Una furtiva lagrima. And it has a hilarious plot, which partly inspired the sequel to BEAKY, due out this fall.
Event this weekend!
First of all you can catch me on a Crowdcast panel February 11, at 1 pm EST at Books of Wonder, with some other great graphic novel creators! I went in this weekend to sign books, and you can get a pre-signed copy sent to you here.
Podcast Interview!
Some cover sketches, including one from back when the book had a different title!
I had a great time being interviewed on Publisher’s Weekly Podcast by Heidi MacDonald! We talked about making picture books versus making a graphic novel, my comic influences, going to art school in New York City, making it as an illustrator, selling cartoons to The New Yorker, and the influence of AI on artists.
Reviews!
The Wall Street Journal Reviews Beaky!
About it they said, “…unabashed entertainment….Young readers ages 6-9 will be glad to know that “Egg on the Loose” is the inaugural title of a planned series….”
Beaky at Kids’ BookBuzz: reviewed by an 8-year-old kid!
This kid says, she thinks a sequel should be made. And by golly, it has been and will be out this fall! So look out for Beaky Barnes and the Devious Duck wherever you buy books.
Inside Peek!
Here are some spreads from BEAKY to whet your appetite if you haven’t seen it yet.
(Hope that was hen-tertaining. …Sorry.)
Remember, you can buy a copy of Beaky Barnes: Egg on the Loose here or here or here.
Have a wonderful week!
Bwok, bwok,
David
The interview was very interesting and so were the reviews. Congratulations!
